Sasa d’ News is Phiroj Singh’s first roll of dice into his professional career. At a time when international cuisines were on the hit list of the residents of Kathmandu, Phiroj Singh took a major risk by starting a Newari restaurant. His Newari eatery in the coming years went on to become the foundation stone for many more in his locality, and elsewhere. He credits his ability to lay out plans for his mission, vision, and policy as the secret to his early success.

Behind the credit of Sasa d’ Newa is the necessity of the people. Every individual needs food, clothes, and shelter to survive. We catered to the food factor. Though a tad luxurious, it is still a necessity for people. Moreover, people like to explore different areas. Sasa d’ Newa acquainted people with the culinary heritage of Kathmandu. It’s nothing that obvious that food and food culture is an important asset of the valley.” He explained the success of his first venture.

After the immense success of Sasa d’ Newa, Phiroj Singh took a bigger step into the hospitality industry. He expanded his first restaurant into a bigger, better venue that showcased the lifestyle, culture, and heritage of the Newars of Kathmandu. Sasa Twa, the new expansion, is a locality in itself. From the entrance, every step of the restaurant garners different factions that you would typically find in a Newari locality.

Phiroj elaborated, “I look to provide a bigger picture to the mass through Sasa Twa. Alongside showcasing the food culture, Sasa Twa reflects the lifestyle of the Newari locality. The name itself explains the motive behind the establishment. We are not just a restaurant, we are a complete tole and that reflects different aspects that you would find in one.”
